I already finished this cardigan early this year, but never came around to write about it (or attach buttons…). I love vintage knitting and sewing patterns and clearly have a soft spot for 80s fashion and this cardigan combines both. I found the pattern browsing in the Drops Garnstudio Pattern catalog, it is in one of the earliest collections from the late 80s. I highly recommend having a look at the patterns! They are all for free and available in many languages. There are some great 80s and Norwegian sweater designs…
This one is is the pattern 8-4, and I used Drops Melody in Cherry red for it. I bought it in a sales, so I don’t know how much I payed for it, but it was probably around 20€, and I needed way less yarn than anticipated, if I remember right, it was 6 skeins. A very satisfying project!
This cardigan sits tight at the hips and wrists, and flows freely around the body, with large batwing sleeves and a beautifully ripped pattern on the front pieces. The pattern is quite minimalistic, as vintage patterns tend to be, but with some interpretation totally doable. The brushed alpaca yarn that I used for it is really nice to work with and has a great luminous color. The brushed alpaca is a nice alternative for mohair yarn, as it is softer and does not scratch at all.
